Mobile Testbed

RoombaNet is a testbed for fully automated evaluation and testing of new approaches and algorithms for mobile sensor network protocols. It is located at the Lübeck University of Applied Science. The Testbed consists of stationary sensor nodes, mobile sensor nodes mounted on mobile “Roomba” robots and a testbed sever. The stationary nodes and mobile nodes are equipped with embedded PCs. The motion of the robots is controlled by the PC via a serial interface. Additionally, the robots can autonomously return to a docking station to recharge themselves automatically. The sensor nodes communicate via IEEE 802.15.4 and are administrated with the PCs over Wi-Fi (802.11). The test data is collected and logged on the PC and transmitted via Wi-Fi to the central testbed server. Thereafter a user can fetch the data for analysis and evaluation. RoombaNet uses the “Wisebed” testbed software and it is possible to run automated tests. A remote access from the Internet is available.

ANSim is a simulator for Ad-Hoc networks with focus on network connectivity. It is especially suited for statistical simulation with long simulation times and large networks. Therefore, ANSim abstracts from the lower layers and implements above the transport layer a mechanism similar to RPC(Remote Procedure Call) for the exchange of data between the nodes. ANSim checks if the location of the nodes Ni and Nj allows to send data from Ni to Nj. Whether such transmissions will suffer from collisions or transmission errors is not taken into account. Also transmission delays caused by busy transmission media in the real world are ignored. New links and paths between nodes can be used to one hundred percent and without any delay. ANSim supports the simulation of static and mobile Ad-Hoc networks and Ad-Hoc networks.
